Peter G. Jacoby ’81 Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, describes the business model for United Health Group and applications of Big Data in healthcare.United Health Group (April 30, 2015)

As the head of Government Affairs, Mr. Jacoby leads the day to day operations of UnitedHealth Group’s (UHG) Corporate Government Affairs Department, which encompasses the company’s Federal and State advocacy and legislative policy efforts. Mr. Jacoby’s work focuses on UHG’s short and long term planning and coordination for overall lobbying, policy and strategic efforts advancing the Enterprise’s public policy agenda to improve access to higher-quality health care while reducing its costs. Additionally, he oversees the company’s political strategy, including UHG’s Political Action Committee.
Prior to joining United Health Group, Mr. Jacoby was Vice President of Federal Government Affairs for AT&T. In this capacity, he had direct responsibility for advocacy efforts before the United States Congress to advance strategic policy goals for the corporation. Mr. Jacoby came to AT&T from the White House where he served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Legislative Counsel. Previously Mr. Jacoby held positions at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld LLP and as senior staff in the U.S. Congress.
Mr. Jacoby obtained his law degree from George Mason University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Lafayette College. He is a Member of the Washington, D.C. and Virginia Bars.
He resides in McLean, Virginia with his wife Tereza and their two daughters.
